Open Safari and enjoy surfing, chatting on web-based Instant Messengers and checking your email.

When using Globe’s mobile network, the speed will depend on the type of signal available to you at the specific location where you are presently situated. Types of applicable mobile signal and speed are as follows: EDGE (up to 156Kbps), 3G (up to 384 Kbps) or HSDPA (up to1.8Mbps) or HSDPA (up to 2Mbps).

Remember that when you connect to the internet using Globe’s mobile network, WiZ Wi-Fi or other Wi-Fi providers, the speed will depend on the number of concurrent users sharing the bandwidth.

Take note that the type of connection and the type of activity may have different charging implications:

  • Choose Time Browsing for best value browsing and enjoyment on your iPhone 3G. To activate, Text TIME to 1111 for FREE.

Special Instructions for iPhone Prepaid Kit subscribers

As of Sept 10, 2008, all iPhones when connected to iTunes will be updated with a feature to allow one to change the internet APN manually. What this means is that after unbricking, any Globe Prepaid subscriber can simply change the internet settings so that you can start browsing! Go to Settings General Network Cellular. Change the setting by typing the corresponding Internet setting: Postpaid: internet.globe.com.ph, Prepaid: http.globe.com.ph

ADVANCE FEATURES

Interested to try out other things aside from the iPod, Safari and YouTube? Learn about these other iPhone 3G features and understand considerations needed when it comes to compatibility.

Mail and Push Email
Postpaid and Prepaid subscribers can set their email using the mail icon. Applicable email accounts include Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo! Mail, Google Gmail, and AOL.
When setting email, best to set this to Manual vs. Push. If you set it on Push, it will constantly connect to the internet causing unnecessary charging and even drain your battery’s life. To turn off Push feature, open Settings -> Fetch New Data -> Push (Off) and set Fetch (Manually).

Maps with GPS
Backed by the power of Google Maps, get a street map or satellite view of locations around the world. With just a tap, you can get directions and check traffic, or find your location using Wi-Fi or cellular positioning.

GPS is available as an iPhone 3G function in the Philippines. What’s not available are accurate street maps under Google Maps. However, a user can still use the GPS functionality to track his location in Satellite view in Google Maps.

iTunes Music Store and App Store
While Philippine residents may now open an iTunes account, ability to purchase only applies to the App Store and not to the iTunes Music Store.

Even without the iTunes Music Store, there’s a whole lot of applications to enjoy --- free or paid --- on gaming, chatting, social networking, traveling, news, sports, finance, business and more

While some are free, some iPhone applications may require payment upon download. Use of the application may or may not require charges depending on the type of application you’ve downloaded. If the application requires internet connection to work, you will be charged whenever you use the application, unless you are connected using free/public Wi-Fi.

*Globe does not have any guarantee when it comes to downloading applications from the App Store. Error in downloading and questions related to download charges should be sent directly to Apple. Globe does not have any guarantee when it comes to how the application behaves or affects your phone’s functions and the charges you incur when you download or make use of the application.

Other Features:
Mobile Me is available but not officially supported by Globe at the moment. Contact Apple or view the Apple website for details.

TIPS TO FULLY ENJOY YOUR IPHONE 3G

3G Enable/Disable
In areas where there is weak 3G signal (enclosed areas, isolated areas), switch off 3G Enable so that the iPhone 3G will not keep on looking for 3G signal and thus limit the possible drain it may have on your battery’s life. Settings -> General -> Network -> 3G Enable -> On/Off

Turn off Wi-Fi When You Don’t Need It
The iPhone's Wi-Fi connection consumes power, even when you are not actively using it or connected to a network. Settings -> Wi-Fi -> On/Off

Manage the Battery Life of Your iPhone 3G
The battery charges to 80% in about two hours, and 100% in four hours. It may take longer to charge the iPhone while syncing or actively using the iPhone.

Use Heat-Friendly Cases
Charging the iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, please take it out of the case first.

Always check for iPhone Software Updates
Always make sure the iPhone has the latest software from Apple, as engineers may find new ways to optimize battery performance. Use iTunes to update the iPhone with the latest software

Keep a Paperclip Handy
Although it may not be the best substitute if you lose your SIM compartment opening tool, a paperclip will do the job.

Use Your Fingertips
Do not use a standard stylus, pen, or other pointing device with the Multi-Touch display. The Multi-Touch display does not detect movement when you use these, and they could scratch or damage the Multi-Touch display.

Choose TIME-based Browsing Rate
Since majority of activities on the iPhone are multimedia-based and you can open up to 8 Safari windows, best to be on Time-based browsing rate so you pay just P5 for every 15 minutes. 1-time activation is required. Text TIME to 1111 for free.
*Not applicable to subscribers on the iPhone Plans.

Changing SIMs is Not Encouraged
Changing SIMs will result to "rebricking" because the iPhone 3G does not recognize the new SIM. You’ll need to activate/unbrick again using iTunes.

WARRANTY, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT

It is the subscriber’s responsibility to read and understand the Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty that can be found in the iPhone 3G Important Product Information Guide on Pages 22 - 26. The brochure can be found in the iPhone 3G box. Apple warrants the Apple-branded hardware product against defects in the materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of one (1) year from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period").

For any iPhone defect, the subscriber may return the iPhone together with official receipt, and/or other documents supporting the transaction (i.e. the form which contains the iPhone model and IMEI number) which the subscriber signed upon receipt of the iPhone for evaluation and assessment to any Globe Business Center within the Warranty Period.

Use of iPhone constitutes acceptance of iPhone terms and conditions (including third party terms and conditions) found in the iPhone box. If you disagree with these, you can return the phone in accordance with Globe’s return policy.

Areas where the iPhone 3G is used may or may not be covered by Globe’s 3G/HSDPA network. Certain structural or hardware limitations may prevent maximization of 3G/HSDPA signal. Other mobile bearers may be chosen such as EDGE or Wi-Fi.
